Monrovia is not a destination of choice for many passengers starting their journey in Europe. I shall be flying with Brussels Airlines from Birmingham to Brussels and onwards to Monrovia. A desperately early start to the day as my flight departure from Birmingham is at 06.30. Mrs D will be pleased to hear that she will be requested to drive me to the airport to arrive around 05.00.
Perhaps I should comment upon the title given to this blog. Graham Greene published a book in 1936 entitled Journey without Maps. This was recommended to me as introductory reading for the Liberia of today! I suspect very few light hearted books have been written about the country or its people since that date. There are many other publications, mostly about the horrific war and various war lords OR selected memoirs of American missionaries who were in Liberia promoting evangelical Christianity. There are even books by ex war lords who are now Christian missionaries. I'm not interested in war. I am not interested in evangelism. I would like to make a small contribution to development and employment creation. We shall see.
